Digi-Pack Planning

My group and I started planning out our digi-pack. We are planning to create an album cover that is hypnotizing and mysterious, but also beautiful and engaging. As we scavenged the internet for images that would fit the look for out digi-pack, I remembered the Rorschach Tests from my AP psychology class. These tests were created by a psychologist Hermann Rorschach. He created these mirrored ink blot images that he would use to diagnose people with schizophrenia by testing their creativity. These images are really captivating and they make you think about what you're looking at. We also think that these images fit in with the narrative of our video, since its about a crazy girl. The image would play on with the whole song and video since its about a girl who isn't mentally stable.

I started searching for things that would inspire me on how to make the singer/main actress in the video more empowering and visually striking. I was having no luck finding anything good since most of the trip hop/baroque pop artists are mainly nice, beautiful and mellow-looking people. This was  called In This Moment. The lead is named Maria Brink and the way she presents herself in her music videos is what I would like to try to duplicate. In This Moment's music videos are very visually striking and they mix that with Maria Brink's looks, sensuality, and great props. The videos show her in an attractive manner with visually impacting scenes. These glitchy shots and scenes really engage the audience as they ask themselves "wait...what did I just see?". I strive to achieve this with my group in the video.

The visuals will not fit in with the usual sound that Lana Del Rey gives in her music. Our video will be more of like a In This Moment music video mixed with a Lana Del Rey song.

New Project, New Ideas

Today, we began planning for out other project. As we all agreed to do a Lana Del Rey song, we were all inspired to give her loving lyrics a twisted angle. I heard the song "Serial Killer" by Lana Del Rey and I began to actually listen to her lyrics, and I looked them up. The lyrics for this song are actually very disturbing. She says about how she is so obsessed with a guy and how she'll do anything like "get into a fake bar fight" to get this guy's attention. Lana Del Rey has a very interesting view on romance, with this song she has an "unhealthy obsession hidden under a sweet beat and chorus". As i read these lyrics, I began to conjure ideas on how to expose and abuse this hidden factor in her song "Serial Killer". I came up with the idea for a music video that makes the singer/main character to have a creepy stalking complex, but the obsession goes a bit too far. The video would consist of a girl who is attractive, yet creepy singing and acting in it. The video would be part promotional, and part narrative.

It's Almost Done

The final edited version of our 2 minute film opening is almost complete. I'm honestly pumped to see how this is going to come out since this is the first time I have done this. I want to see what I look like acting as a stalker, I feel like this will be an interesting story to tell in the future to people. I'm pretty impressed with myself, I've never really tried this before and I'm excited to see the complete version. We still have to think for a name for the whole piece, which is a whole other deal on its own.

Director's Commentaries Part 1

Today, my group and I met and we began to plan out our director commentaries. We all divided up the scripts since we all did different things in the piece. I, as the main actor, wrote out about what I had to do acting wise and I also gave a bit of back story to the viewers. I spoke about how many times we had to re-do a scene, and backstory.

WE FILMED

Over this weekend, my group and I filmed. We filmed for an entire day and we got some pretty cool shot and angles in and I'm very excited to see the final cut. We filmed in a total of about 4 different locations over the day and night. I acted as the main character in the two-minute piece, and I don't want to brag, but I feel like I did a pretty decent job. Luckily, my group and I worked diligently and we managed to set everything up. We also managed to finish filming in one day, now we are editing the final piece.

Storyboarding

Displaying CAM00394.jpg

Today, my group and I dedicated it to storyboarding. We have a series of different shots and angles that we plan to use in our opening. The shots will correlate with the song. The music will be a large part of the context of the video, but the shots have to set it over the top.

Songs. Songs. And more Songs.

Ever since our new change in mindset for our 2 minute opening, my group and I have been looking for songs to fit the opening. We have been song hunting. At first, we agreed on using the Filter cover of "Happy Together". But, as we have been continuing our project, we have stumbled over more and more songs. As we listen to these new songs, our original song feels like it is a bit too intense at times and we can't really figure out what to do for those parts of the songs. Recently, we stumbled upon yet another song, the "I'll be Watching You" Chase Holfelder cover. For now, we have our mind set on this song. It fits pur genre perfectly, the song is creepy, slow, yet very romantic.

The Plot Twist

Today, our group met with another. We were discussing the ideas that were flowing in our heads and a fellow classmate showed me a song that he wanted to use in his project. I liked the song. It then reminded me of another old song. Then, this old song I was thinking of planted a whole new idea in my head. The song that I started to think about was Happy Together by The Turtles. Since this is such a happy song, I started to think about how ironic it would be to create an opening to a narrative that is extremely, romantically dark. Through these thoughts I got the idea to create an opening for a film about a stalker who is obsessed with a girl, but ironically use this song. The song will basically juxtapose the visuals; it will show a boy stalking a girl and his obsession with her. Yet the song is about a cute romance. So, instead of our original idea, my group and I will follow this new idea out. The opening will be fit for a film such as 2009's "Obsessed" and it will follow the themes of Maroon 5's "Animals" music video.

Costume

For our two minute opening of the project, my group and I have decided that we are going to do a sort of "broken local vigilante" theme. Similar to that of "Kick-Ass" which tells the story of a young man who becomes a local vigilante. The hero of our opening would have a dark yet simple costume, this costume would be homemade and representative of that from Batman: Beyond's costume. The costume would be like a modernized and simplified version of the Batman costume.

The costume of the vigilante would be black or grey with simple civilian clothes. The costume would still be sort of ominous or intimidating.  The costume would be resemble the Batman costume and give off the same vibe, but it would consist of jeans, a hoodie, and a mask.
